New obligations and upcoming challenges in slashing Europe’s food waste: BeSoGreat unveils cutting-edge solutions

The European Parliament has recently approved the revision of the Waste Directive: by 31 December 2030, Member States will have to meet legally binding targets:

✅ -10% in food waste during processing and production

✅ -30% in food waste across distribution, food services, and households

This decision opens new opportunities for innovative projects and business models that turn waste into valuable resources, reinforcing the commitment to reducing waste and promoting circular economy practices.
Within this framework, the BeSoGreat project has been working to develop a Circular Business Model that revalorizes by-products from beer production. Instead of being discarded, these materials are transformed into new products with potential in different markets, from cultivation, forest protection and beer accessories.
The project demonstrates how collaboration and innovation can support EU policies and contribute to a more sustainable future, where waste is seen as a resource rather than a burden.
