BeSoGreat at NETmicroplastic Conference & Mini-Fair 2025

06 Nov 2025, Tulln, Austria

We recently had the opportunity to present our BeSoGreat project at the NETmicroplastic Conference & Mini Fair at the University and Research Center Tulln (AIT Austrian Institute of Technology).

With around 60 participants from policy, industry and academia, the event focused on the challenges of microplastics in agricultural soils and how biodegradable polymer materials can contribute to solutions. A keynote by Christian Lott (HYDRA Marine Sciences GmbH) set the scene with an insightful overview of microplastics in agricultural soil, followed by sessions on field study results, fertilizers as a source of microplastics, and best practices from the field and vineyard.

We were pleased to contribute by presenting our work within BeSoGreat on using beer spent grains as a resource for biocomposites as a potential substitute for fossil-based plastics. The interest and questions around our material concept and processing technologies were encouraging and gave us valuable input on additional aspects to consider for biodegradable plastics and possible new use cases.

Beyond the talks, the stakeholder exhibition and networking sessions offered great opportunities to connect with other projects, explore collaboration possibilities, and expand our stakeholder community in the microplastics and biodegradable plastics field.

Thank you to the organizers at AIT, all speakers and participants for the inspiring exchanges and the collaborative spirit throughout the day.
