BeSoGreat FVG Workshop: sustainability, innovation and beer come together

Pordenone, 20 November 2025 – Birrificio di Naon

On 20 November 2025, the Birrificio di Naon microbrewery became an inspiring venue for an evening dedicated to circular innovation. COMET – the Mechanical Engineering Cluster of Friuli Venezia Giulia – hosted the BeSoGreat workshop to showcase the innovative biocomposite derived from brewers’ spent grains: the BSG-BC.

The event guided participants through the entire value chain, “from waste to final product”. It opened with the policy perspective of Flavio Gabrielcig (Autonomous Region FVG) on circular business models and regional incentives, followed by the technical deep dive from Manuela Facchin (CROSSING) on how BSG can be transformed into bio-based plastics. The session by Albert Menarin (DEROMA) illustrated how the material behaves in injection moulding and 3D printing, featuring live prototypes and the final aeroponic pot.

The highlight of the evening was the call to action addressed to local injection-moulding and 3D-printing companies. The dynamic Q&A sparked lively discussion and resulted in three companies expressing concrete interest in testing the BSG-BC material for potential applications.

A closing beer tasting provided the perfect networking setting, encouraging further exchanges and ideas for future collaborations.
The strong engagement confirms that Friuli Venezia Giulia is ready to play a leading role in the development of new circular bio-based value chains.
